Course structure
All students participating in our health sciences program take the following eight core courses for a total of 24 credits:
- HL201 — Introduction to Healthcare and the Health Professions
- HL210 — Lifespan Human Development
- HL225 — Advanced Writing: Composition in the Health Sciences
- HL301 — Medical Terminology
- HL311 — Promotion of Health and Disease Prevention
- HL401 — Professionalism within the Health Sciences
- HL411 — Health Information Management
- HL421 — Health Sciences Seminar and Research
- When you participate in our undergraduate health sciences degree, you’ll choose one of four concentrations:
- General Track (122 credits) — This is a great choice if you’re seeking an entry-level job that doesn’t require an advanced degree or you’d like to apply for a professional program at another college or university
- Pre-occupational Therapy Track (126 credits) — If you would like to pursue a career as an occupational therapist (which requires at least a master’s degree in occupational therapy), this track will prepare you for your graduate studies
- Pre-physical Therapy Track (126 credits) — If you dream of becoming a physical therapist, this track includes all the prerequisites for our Doctor of Physical Therapy program (practicing physical therapists must hold a DPT degree)
- Pre-athletic Training Track (128 credits) — From 2022, athletic trainers must hold at least a masters-level degree in athletic training, so if that’s your ideal vocation, this track will prepare you for a master’s degree (and if you’re one of the highest-qualifying graduates of this track, you’re guaranteed preference in the selection processes of the graduate athletic training programs at Daemen College, Neumann University, Slippery Rock University, and the University of Buffalo)
